Dear Family
Those District classes are always taught by me cuz I´m the District Leader. Sometimes the zone leaders help, but i´m in charge of it every week, which is kinda weird cuz i´m teaching other Elders my age, but whatever it´s pretty cool cuz they look at me like some Wise Wizard with so many answers haha. My comp´s doing well. He´s steadily getting better with his spanish, and is able to respond to the questions that people ask him. I need to work with him so we can teach together with unity, but many times it´s hard cuz people ask us questions that only i can respond, but he´s getting better. he´s a really obedient and good kid, so God will bless him really quickly.
We had conference this week, and that was fun to get together with all the other Elders and see and talk to kids that were in the MTC with me. One of them is Elder Yeakley haha he´s a funny kid that just cracked me up in the MTC, and i´m currently emailing next to him. He´s going home in August to go to BYU cuz he has a scholarship, so if he stayed for the end of September with us he´d lose it. You´d think that BYU would be a little more understanding, but it´s all good. I heard that i could enter in October to take a limited number of classes, which i would love, so if you could, Mom, check that out for me :) Anyways...
We´ve been working really hard, and we´ve had a lot of trials, but also seen miracles and blessings. Claudia, a sister who has attended 3 times at church, is really struggling with accepting the law of tithing. She´s a single mom of two kids, and so she has a lot of stress. she was kicked out of an apartment once for not being able to pay, so she´s worried that something similiar will happen. We´ve decided that we´re going to do little things of service for her to let her know how much we care about them, and that we´re not just there to ask for their tithing, which is how i feel sometimes haha bill collectors. We are focusing a lot on working with the members, and as a mission we´re calling on all the members to begin working with us. We´re calling ward mission leaders, where there aren´t any, and calling ward missionaries. They did this in the Concepción zone and they were able to double their baptisms and bring a lot of less actives back to the church, so we´re really excited about putting this plan into action in the whole mission. On Sunday the Branch President asked us to go to all the classes and talk to the members about it, and ask them if they´d be willing to participate. When we were with the young mens, nobody said yes, and it surprised me how much i saw myself and how i was when i had their age in them. I was amazed at how pathetic i saw myself, but so grateful for the changes that this gospel has had in my life, and that i´ve learned how to serve willingly and happily. It´s such a blessing for our leaders and for God to have servants that are willing to work and serve, He will not drag us to heaven, we must do it willingly. A huge part of that change has come from the Book of Mormon and through Prayer, that spirit knows how to change us and it´s awesome!!
One miracle that we saw was a with an investigator named Wenceslao. He´s an old guy whose wife was baptized 4 years ago and has gone to the temple, but he´s just been stubborn and hasn´t accepted to be baptized. He´s been taught every single lesson that we as missionaries could possibly teach, but he´s never taken the time to study it out for himself with sincerity and prayer. We met him and invited him for baptism for the 20th of March and he didn´t accept cuz he says he wants to have his back operated on first so he can walk into the baptismal font like a man...geez, this was two weeks ago. Since then he´s attended church twice, and has been reading the Book of Mormon and we´ve been sharing with him pretty consistently. On Saturday we taught a Plan of Salvation lesson using Abraham 3 which stresses that this plan is based on Humility and Obedience. It was one of the most spiritual Plan of Salvation lessons that i´ve ever had, and at the end he told us that this operation has been delayed for so long and that he´s getting worse before he gets better, and so getting baptized sooner would be better than waiting for later. He told us that he was commited to being baptized on the 20th of March!! As he said it I felt the spirit just rush into the room, talk about that promise being completed of as we are humble and come unto Christ he will bless us with his spirit. I was practically in tears by the end of the lesson. The best part was that we had been fasting that morning that he and Claudia would accept baptism. Our prayers were answered so fast!! It really strengthened my testimony of prayer. Anyways miracles do happen if we are obedient and ask them of the Lord, especially if we are asking for others.
Thanks for all you guys do for me, tell the kids to stop growing cuz they all look way too old, all the Elders here thought Amy was 15 or 16 when they saw that pic haha.
