In Chile everyone opens gifts on Christmas Eve, so Elders Christenson, Viana, Mayberry and Jorgensen did the same. The next morning they went to a district Christmas meeting where they exchanged gifts with whoever's name they drew. Later that day we were able to talk to Tanner for one hour and seventeen minutes. It was so great! He said his favorite gift was the BYU history of football book but he loved the rest too.
New Years Eve the Elders were invited over to a member's house. Tanner said it was really nice but that he was super tired and was glad to go home to sleep. Here's an email he sent January 4th:
We´re doing good here, the last couple of weeks I´ve been really frustrated with our investigators cuz we´ve had nobody at church, but we had 5 at church yesterday! Finally! I know the Lord blessed us, cuz me and comp made some changes that needed to be made and are working harder than ever. We´re teaching this one really old guy that also has alzheimer´s and so we don´t really know if he remembers all that we´ve been teaching him, and we didn´t expect him to show up to church cuz we didn´t pass by his house before Sacrament. It was so awesome to see him show up all on his own in a grey suit and tie (most investigators just show up wearing jeans or whatever they want) and he participated and had a lot of questions during sunday school and priesthood, so that was really cool. We´re getting really close to some baptisms so we´re excited, and we´ve got some good families to teach so hopefully the baptisms will just start rolling in, but we have to work really hard to make sure that happens. Anyways hope you´re all good and tell everyone who pitched in to give me money for Christmas a big THANK YOU!!! That was so nice of them! Thanks for writing, it really is a boost to hear from you guys, and I always look forward to it.
